FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We know choosing care for someone you love is a big decision. Here are answers to the questions families ask us most.
Still have questions? We’re here for you. Call us anytime—we’d love to chat
What exactly is adult day care, and how is it different from a nursing home?
Adult day care is a daytime program for seniors who need companionship, supervision, or some assistance—but who still live at home and return there each evening. Unlike a nursing home, we don’t provide overnight stays or 24/7 medical care. Instead, we offer a safe, engaging, and supportive environment that helps seniors stay independent at home for as long as possible.
How do I know if adult day care is the right choice for my family?
You might be surprised how much adult day care can help. Families often tell us they wish they’d started sooner. Consider adult day care if:
- Your loved one seems lonely, withdrawn, or anxious when left alone
- You worry about safety or falls during the day
- They need help with meals, medications, or personal care
- You’re feeling burned out as a caregiver
We invite you to visit for a trial day—no pressure, just a chance to see if it feels like home.
Is Winter Growth just adult day care, or do you offer other services?
Not at all! We offer a full continuum of care under one roof, including adult day care, assisted living, specialized memory care, and respite care. This matters because if your loved one’s needs change over time, they don’t have to move to a new place—they can transition seamlessly right here, with the caring team they already trust.
How long has Winter Growth been around?
Over 45 years, serving families in Howard and Montgomery Counties. That deep local history means we’re not just a business—we’re a trusted part of the community, with experienced staff who truly know our participants and residents.
How can I pay for adult day care? Does Medicaid help?
Yes, for many families, Medicaid is the primary way to cover adult day care costs. Each state offers Medicaid waiver programs that can pay for these services. Beyond Medicaid, families also use private pay (out-of-pocket) or long-term care insurance policies, which often cover adult day care depending on the plan. We can help you understand all your options—including eligibility for Medicaid, private insurance, and self-pay—and guide you through the process. Contact us to learn more.
Does Medicare cover adult day care?
Medicare alone does not cover adult day care. However, there are combined Medicare/Medicaid programs like PACE that do. PACE is designed for lower-income seniors who have both Medicare and Medicaid, helping them receive care in their community rather than in a nursing home.
Will long-term care insurance cover adult day care?
Most long-term care insurance policies do include adult day care coverage. In fact, using adult day care instead of more expensive in-home care can help you stretch your policy benefits further. Check your policy or give us a call—we’ve helped many families navigate this.
My loved one is a veteran—are there benefits to help cover costs?
Yes! The VA offers Adult Day Health Care for qualifying veterans, which covers medical services—often for up to 2 days per week. For custodial care (non-medical adult day care), the Aid and Attendance pension benefit can help cover both medical and custodial care for veterans and their surviving spouses. We’re happy to help you explore these options.
Do you provide transportation to and from the center?
Yes! We offer door-to-door transportation within our service area to make attendance as convenient and stress-free as possible. Contact us to confirm whether we serve your neighborhood and to discuss scheduling.
Can you handle my loved one's dietary restrictions or health needs?
Absolutely. We accommodate a wide range of dietary needs, including diabetes-friendly, low-sodium, heart-healthy, texture-modified (soft or puréed), and renal diets. Our licensed dietitian works closely with families and healthcare providers to ensure every meal is both safe and enjoyable.
